Indonesia Humanitarian Relief
6 October 2018
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Om Sri Sai Ram.
During the past week the Sulawesi island in Indonesia has endured back-to-back natural disasters. A deadly earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit on 28 September 2018 followed by a tsunami and a volcanic eruption of Mount Soputan.
The tsunami generated waves in the ocean that were 23-feet high and hit the coastal city of Palu with tremendous force. The situation is extremely grave. As of the release of this report, the estimated death toll is around 1,650 people and rising. More than 70,000 people including many children have been displaced and in need of immediate assistance.
The Indonesia Sri Sathya Sai Rescue Team deployed to ground zero soon after the earthquake, tsunami and volcano. They immediately began to provide food, medical assistance and post-traumatic care for many children who lost their parents due to the disaster.
Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has said that sincere prayer is one of the most effective ways to assuage the grief and suffering of victims of natural disasters. Let us all intensify our prayers to Swami to shower His divine blessings on our brothers and sisters afflicted by these disasters.
In addition, more efforts and significant resources will be required for long-term recovery and rehabilitation. The Prasanthi Council is in close communication with SSSIO Indonesia and the Humanitarian Relief Committee to coordinate required international assistance.

Lovingly in the Service of Sai,
