Zone 6

Zone Activities

On September 2 and 3, 2023, 45 officers and SSSIO members from 18 European countries in Zones 6 and 7 met in Athens, Greece at the beautiful Sai Prema facility. The meeting featured spiritual practices, talks, presentations, and discussions on humanitarian relief and environmental projects. Participants also had the opportunity to watch keynote speeches online by Prasanthi Council members Mr. Leonardo Gutter, Dr. Suresh Govind, and Ms. Marianne Meyer. Senior officers from Europe also delivered uplifting talks and testimonials, touching every heart with their encouraging words and wisdom.

Bosnia and Herzegovina

The SSSIO of Bosnia and Herzegovina continued its impactful collaboration with Pomozi.ba, a local humanitarian organization. In 2023, this partnership resulted in the donation of a substantial 1,051 kg of fresh vegetables and fruits, providing daily meals for those in need and elderly citizens. This is a testament to the SSSIO's commitment to local partnerships and its humanitarian relief efforts.

On October 27, 2023, the Franciscan community of Bosnia and Herzegovina organized an interfaith prayer meeting at the Church of Saint Antoni Paduan in Sarajevo. Distinguished Bosnian actress Ms. Gordana Boban, representing the SSSIO, gave an inspiring speech that resonated with the attendees from diverse religious backgrounds, including Islam, Jewish, Catholic, Protestant, Bahai, and Hare Krishna communities. The event concluded with a prayer, invoking peace for all beings.

Public celebrations for Maha Samadhi Day and Swami's Birthday were held in Sarajevo. SSSIO members participated in Yoga and musical events during Mahashivaratri and in December, showcasing devotional songs from various religious traditions.

Croatia

In 2023, SSSIO Croatia purchased an 80-square-meter property in Zagreb's green area, along with a garage to store books and other service items. Several service activities were conducted throughout 2023, including helping needy families with food and necessities, supporting animal protection organizations, preparing warm meals for the homeless, and visiting the elderly.

France

Every month, a few SSSIO members from the Sathya Sai Center of Paris provide support to homeless people, including the distribution of food, hot drinks, necessities, warm clothing, and blankets for the winter. Following natural disasters in Syria and Turkey, SSSIO members from France generously supported the humanitarian relief efforts in the devastated areas.

Greece

SSSIO Greece has organized several retreats in Sai Prema, near Athens, with the theme Transform your thoughts, words, and deeds and make your heart a Prasanthi Nilayam. The retreats, which took place from April 8 to 17, July 21 to 30, and August 4 to 13, 2023, attracted 90 participants from Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA. The program included meditation, prayers, devotional singing, Veda chanting, yoga classes, the study of the Bhagavad Gita, study circles, workshops, and visits to Delphi, Acropolis, old town Athens, and Greek churches.

The Sarva Dharma Choir of Northern Europe organized a week-long camp at the Sai Prema Center near Athens from July 10 to 17, 2023. The camp included rehearsals, exercises, and personal time for the participants. It concluded with a concert featuring the song "Agni Parthene" from the Orthodox church, sung in Greek, which gained special recognition.

The Sai Agri-Seva Camp took place from December 22, 2023, to January 2, 2024, with 22 participants from Denmark, Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and the Netherlands. Additionally, the SSSIO organized visits to help the affected people in the flooded villages of Thessalia, offering food, furniture, bed sheets, pillowcases, quilts, detergents, and cleaning items.

Ireland

Throughout 2023, the Sathya Sai Center of Dublin actively served the community each month by preparing and serving meals to over 200 individuals in need at the Lighthouse Soup Kitchen. This initiative, driven by the Center's Young Adult wing and supported by senior SSE students, instilled the value of selfless service and its contribution to spiritual growth among participants.

From August 25 to 27, over 60 community members gathered for a spiritual retreat at Butlerstown Castle Cottages in Wexford County. The retreat offered a dedicated space for spiritual connection and upliftment. The proceedings opened in the mornings with devotional prayers and singing amidst the serene beauty of the castle gardens, followed by sessions dedicated to studying and reflecting on Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings. Engaging games and collaborative meal preparation fostered the spirit of unity during the two-day event.

Israel

In 2023, weekly devotional singing and study circles were held with members of the two Sathya Sai Centers in North Israel/Ein Hod and Tel Aviv, joined by a small group of Russian-speaking devotees in Jerusalem. SSSIO members also engaged in service initiatives, such as serving food to homeless people, visiting sick and aged people, providing free psychological support, and tutoring in English.

Two public meetings were the main events of the year. The first was an inspirational talk by Ms. Brigitte Kashtan, National Council President of the SSSIO of Israel, at a three-day Peace Conference titled Unity in Diversity in the Light of Universal Human Values. The second public meeting concerned spirituality. Dr. George Bebedelis, Director of the ISSE Southern Europe, was a guest speaker at this event held at the first Sathya Sai Center in north Israel.

Italy

In 2023, Sathya Sai Centers and Groups in Italy resumed in-person devotional activities with children and parents. Zoom meetings focused on Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's life, the Vedas, and the Upanishads. The devotional wing of the SSSIO created a website to share information with SSSIO members and the public. Under the SAI 100 initiative, 700 apple trees were planted in support of farmers whose land had been severely flooded. Public conferences were organized on topics such as Mind Management, Advaita Philosophy, and The Unknown Mind.

Serbia

On October 7, 2023, sixteen SSSIO members visited an organic garden in Drazevac to discuss organic farming and their experiences with Sai Baba. The day ended with devotional singing. SSSIO members chanted the 108 names of Sri Sathya Sai Baba each day for 108 days before His Birthday throughout the country.

On November 23, celebrations were organized at two locations, with 21 members in Novi Sad chanting prayers and sharing Sai Baba's life stories, teachings, and stories of personal transformation. The event concluded with devotional songs in both Sanskrit and local languages.

Slovenia

Nearly 20 SSSIO members gathered every week for regular Thursday meetings to chant 108 Gayatri mantras, conduct a study circle, or do Likitha Japam (meditation while writing) followed by devotional singing. Special occasions, including Maha Shivaratri, Human Values Day, Guru Purnima, Akhanda Bhajans, Sri Sathya Sai Baba's birthday, and Christmas, were celebrated with approximately 50 to 70 people attending. Every Saturday, beginning with Human Values Day, a few members gathered in the Sathya Sai Center to prepare around 100 lunch packets for the homeless shelter in Ljubljana. SSSIO volunteers adopted a family whose house was devastated by the floods and renovated the lower level.

Spain

A public conference titled Unity of Head, Heart, and Hands was held in Madrid on May 6, 2023, attended by 49 people. The conference highlighted the SSSIO's purpose and activities, while Ms. Raksha Mahtani, Deputy Central Coordinator of Zone 6, emphasized the importance of spirituality and internal tuning.

In December 2023, 37 people attended a National Meeting in Madrid, with the theme Service is Love in Action. Mr. Adriano Bratovic, Chairman of Zone 6 (south Europe), shared his wisdom and experiences.

Service activities were regularly carried out in Sathya Sai Centers, including cleaning public spaces, distributing food, and singing to mentally challenged and elderly people during the Christmas season.

Switzerland

The National Spring Satsang held in Zurich on March 19, 2023, attracted 40 SSSIO members from Sathya Sai Centers. The theme was Be Happy with Your Role.

The National Autumn Satsang in Aarau was attended by 50 SSSIO members. Ms. Raksha Mahtani from Spain was the guest speaker. Many past SSSIO officers shared their inspiring experiences with Sathya Sai.

Fifty devotees sang Christmas songs at the National Winter Satsang in Zurich, which featured a candlelight walkthrough display. A new devotional songbook containing 243 songs, accompanied by audio files for easy learning, was launched.

United Kingdom

SSSIO members filled shoe boxes with items for children and adults from Eastern Europe and delivered around 30 boxes to the Rotary Club for distribution.

On July 2, 180 SSSIO members, their families, and friends celebrated Guru Poornima at West Lodge School in Pinner, featuring guest speaker Mr. Aravind Balasubramanya. The day's program included Veda chanting, multifaith songs, and discussions with young adults about their experiences and achievements.

In December 2023, the SSSIO donated winter coats to homeless shelters, refugee centers, and other charities.
