Russia Feed the Hungry
Volunteer Camp
Public Meeting in Ukraine

In October 2019, over 200 SSSIO volunteers from Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan served more than 1,200 impoverished individuals with hot porridge (rice, buckwheat, wheat), vegetables, hot beverages, and desserts. Volunteers also distributed packages containing cereals, butter, vegetable oil, juices, and tea. Some Sathya Sai Centres supplied winter clothes, shoes, hygiene kits, along with groceries to the underprivileged.

Public meetings were held in 46 cities across Zone 8 during 3–20 November 2019. In total, more than 900 people attended these meetings and were introduced to the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, through presentations, films, and interactive games.

On 23 November 2019, more than 1,300 people in 76 cities across Zone 8 participated in the joyous celebration of Sri Sathya Sai Baba’s 94th Birthday. Participants shared their spiritual experiences, and everyone joined in singing uplifting devotional songs.

Service to Elders
Education Conference

In early June 2019, 26 SSSIO members gathered in Vitebsk to attend the 6th National Education Conference in Belarus.

In mid-September 2019, SSSIO volunteers from three cities in Belarus served the elderly and the disabled at a local nursing home by cleaning their rooms, the windows, and the lobby. They also distributed sweets and bananas to the residents.

Human Values Day

In April 2019, more than 30 people attended a Human Values Day programme organised by the SSSIO of Kazakhstan to familiarise the public with the five human values and the impact of Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) on students.

In late October 2019, more than 40 people from 11 cities in Kazakhstan and Russia participated in a National Conference where SSSIO members discussed various Sathya Sai Centre projects.

Kyrgyzstan

Celebrating 150th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

On 2 October 2019, about 70 faith leaders and 4 SSSIO members met in Bishkek to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Representatives from various faiths spoke about the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi. The meeting concluded with a spiritual programme that featured poems, songs, and Indian dances.

The European Sathya Sai Education (ESSE) Institute organised a series of seminars in April and May 2019 for the benefit of more than 50 participants. The seminars covered topics ranging from the life and teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba to leadership skills development.

On a beautiful, sunny day in May 2019, 17 SSSIO volunteers planted 100 pine seedlings to commemorate the All-Russian Forest Planting Day and celebrate Nature through reforestation.

At an eco-camp held in Central Russia in mid-May 2019, SSSIO volunteers taught young children the importance of protecting Nature. Team members weeded flower beds, planted a variety of trees, bushes, plants, and vegetables such as green peas, zucchini, and cucumbers.

In early June 2019, 36 SSSIO volunteers from northwest Russia took part in a week-long service camp near St. Petersburg. They renovated a local school, distributed 25 care packages of food and other essential supplies to local needy families, and conducted value-based lessons for children from a local rehabilitation centre.

In the middle of June 2019, 26 SSSIO volunteers from six Siberian cities worked together in inclement weather to repair houses of two retired seniors. They also distributed groceries to impoverished families and cleaned the banks of the Irtysh, Ob, and Yenisei rivers.

More than 55 SSSIO members from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Russia participated in a family camp on the shore of the Caspian Sea in late August 2019. Participating families enjoyed many fun activities, including theatrical performances. Additionally, children who took part in the Sai Olympics were presented friendship prizes in place of medals and awards.

During August 2019, 132 SSSIO volunteers from the USA, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the UK came together in northwest Russia for a week-long “mega-service” camp. A team of healthcare professionals, comprised of several medical specialists, provided healthcare to over 2,500 patients. An 18-member repair and construction team installed electrical equipment in a nearby city, renovated a local school ground, repaired a nearby building and updated the facade of a local polyclinic. The social service team distributed packages containing pasta, buckwheat, cookies, soap, and other essential items. The education team organised classes on character development.

Ukraine

International Camp
Public Meeting

The SSSIO of Ukraine held its Annual Service Camp from late June to early July 2019. More than 60 SSSIO volunteers from Ukraine and Europe worked together to renovate a school building and make it more accessible for the physically challenged by constructing a ramp and a canopy. In addition, medical professionals from Germany, the UK and the USA served more than 950 patients at a medical camp. SSSIO educators gave lessons in human values to about 150 students. The volunteers also delivered food, clothing, and shoes to 60 needy families, at their homes.

In late October 2019, volunteers from eight cities in Ukraine and Russia gathered in Odessa, in southern Ukraine, to attend a seminar by the ESSE Institute. Over the course of two days, six speakers presented 15 talks covering a range of topics such as the five human values, the life and teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the SSSIO and its various activities.
